Class was cancelled today due to professor illness, so I had the day free. I decided to visit the Trader Joe's in Westwood. Wow, it really is one of the largest Trader Joe's I've ever been to. Apparently, Ezekiel bread people makes tortillas, so I bought them for my shredded cheese in the fridge. I also picked up some dry active yeast. Wanted to try making some fresh rosemary foccacia bread. Anyway, then, kogibbq twittered their lonliness at SMC, so I thought I'd go try them out. I stopped by SMC and lo and behold... no lines! Sadness that I tried the famous traveling truck after giving up meat, but the tofu tacos were pretty good. Very flavorful with lots of garlic and Korean chili paste. Contrasts nicely with the corn tortillas. I imagine it would be pretty great with short ribs or the spicy pork.
Have you guys tried the Kogi truck/food?

they didn't have their vegan option today? that's an interesting take on tacos...i probably wouldn't get it again, but might be good for those who don't eat meat. i practically have kogi once a week...last week i had them twice! i didn't have to wait at their kitchen in the alibi room last friday at 6:30pm, but by 7pm, the place was packed! they are there monday through saturday, 6pm - midnight...if you don't wanna wait i say just go to the alibi room around 6pm or so. i think i'll go there tomorrow before small group...it's three blocks or so around the corner from where i'll be meeting =).
@chungabunga - I think Kogi is pretty good, but it's a bit too salty for my tastes. I had to drink water the rest of the night! I only had the tofu, so I could only imagine how salty the meat ones would've been
Did you give up meat for lent or is this more of a long-term thing?
@theikedas - It's more of a long-term thing
i went to walk around ucla recently and was pleasantly surprised to see trader joes there. if there was a traders joes while i was a student, my whole food experience would have been different. i think you found the secret to kogi. i think i will keep that tidbit in the back of my head.
